Infrared pictures
Here is a selection of infrared pictures that were taken with the infrared camera. The camera measures in the infrared window (8 to 14 microns). The color scale in degrees Celcius is shown on the side of the IR pictures.
Cumulus clouds above the city of Bern. A temperature gradient from the cloud-base to the cloud-top is clearly visible and gives information on the extent of the convection.
Cirrus clouds. Characterized in the infrared by a low radiance due to a low physical temperature and a small optical thickness.
The city of Bern seen from the roof of the ExWi building. On this very dry winter day, the Alps on the background were visible.
Montage visible/infrared of a sky scene showing low and high clouds.
